Of course everyone's first question is why raw food? The answer is simple and natural, but if you are feeding your pet commercial pet food (which has been cooked to death) then your animal is not getting the kind of diet they really need to be happy and healthy and disease free.

So the answer to why raw is animals don't need their food cooked. Even though we have domesticated our animals their stomachs and digestive tracts are still the same as their wild cousins. Eating a raw diet is natural for them and very beneficial to their health. Animals in the wild have healthy digestive systems because they eat a variety of foods including prey flesh, internal organs and stomach contents. The combination of these foods provides a diet that is rich in high quality protein, enzymes, vegetation and vitamins.

Raw foods help your pet maintain a healthy pH and enzyme level in their stomach and digestive track. This in turn helps your animal to maintain a naturally strong immune system which helps prevent opportunistic and degenerative diseases from attacking their bodies. A great raw diet uses certified organic meats, certified organic grains, vegetable and herbs all human grade and USDA certified to insure that no unwanted by products are introduced into you pet's diet. We are all animal lovers ourselves and think that our furry friends deserve nothing but the best! So if you really want to keep your best friend at their optimal health level and don't mind spending a little more for the best, then raw is the right diet for your pet. We all want to provide the best for our animals.

Why is Raw the Best?

  1. Raw meats properly prepared and minimally processed are high in essential fatty acids. These fatty acids are attained in the wild naturally from the carcasses of the prey animals. This explains why supplements were not needed prior to the processed pet foods’ introduction to our companion animal’s diet. Thus the species survived thousands of years without man’s help or inadvertent hindrance.

  2. Along with the essential fatty acids, live enzymes, phytochemicals, antioxidants and friendly bacteria are found in a readily absorbable form in raw meats and predigested grains and vegetable materials. The long-term health and strength of any given companion animal is reliant on these nutrients. Slow-cooked or soaked grains and finely shredded, re-ground vegetables are still whole, yet broken down as they would be found in the stomach of the prey. These prey animals sustained the life for our companions’ ancestors for the duration of evolution insuring the species survived.

  3. Minerals are scientifically found in abundance and in nature’s own ratio in the uncooked bones of animals. Not only does giving your dog a bone make them happy, it may well be the best thing you can do to provide for their nutritional well-being.

While the processed pet foods today are better formulated than in the 1930’s, They do not provide the live materials that A FRESH RAW DIET can.  Here is the proof:

  1. Teeth brighten and lose plaque, eliminating the need for cleaning.

  2. Breath becomes almost odorless indicating a healthy start to the digestive process.

  3. Skin becomes healthy and vibrant and creates a hostile environment to most parasites.

  4. Coat shines brightly and sheds minimally.  Raw Feeding is very popular among show dog owners and judges, yielding many awards to raw feeders.

  5. The stool is less in volume and much less offensive even in the litter box.

  6. Optimal body weight is easily obtained and maintained. As a result, the vascular system is much less stressed, allowing the best function of the heart, liver and thyroid.

  7. Large-breed puppies have much less chance of growing too fast. Their joints can grow without undue stress, and their long-term quality of life is optimized.

  8. Arthritic conditions are minimized and many geriatric companions have a chance at a second childhood. This is greatly attributed to the natural Essential Fatty Acids, as well as, the overall pH balance becoming normalized, reducing inflammation. glucosamine, chondroitin and collagen are a natural component in raw meat.

  9. Quicker recoveries from infections or infestations, as well as, over-all healing occur.  The strength of the immune system is revitalized, like it was before we treated every cut or flea with drug therapies.

  10. The ravages of a degenerative disease seem to be decreased and overall chances for full recovery are optimized.

  11. Raw is best fed at room temperature. Never microwave! The live enzymes are damaged and bones will harden even with 30 seconds of microwave heat. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days.

Smaller doges might find Cornish Game Hens might be a good choice.  In the beginning of raw feeding, you could be conservative on the side of more bone. A suggestion of 20+% . Once the stools straighten out, you can adjust or reduce bone to protein.

I have found that buying raw from the local grocery store is superior in many ways.  Try turkey, rabbit, goat, beef heart or lean pork.
